So, here we are - with a new forum. It's free - I don't have to host it on my home system, and it's already pre-made software. All I have to do is configure it to look like our old forum. The old one ran on my home server for 8+ years and someone has been hacking it, so I've moved it here. The old posts aren't "gone" per say, but you won't have access to them for a while (if at all.) I don't really see the need to, to be honest. This is really a dynamic club anyway and people come and go.
The ads make it free, however for $5 for 30,000 pageviews they can dissappear. Mind you, 30,000 page views on our forum may last us a month or two - or it may last us a few weeks. I don't know. I've put in $10 for 60,000 pageviews to see how long it will last; thankfully I can specify who sees the ads and who doesn't, so only members and admins have ad-free pages. Validating members and guests will still have ads. You'll have to recreate your account, but this is your chance to re-do your username if you'd like. (Though I can change it at anytime if I want.) If you're anal about post counts (I don't care) then I can put post counts back. I just can't keep up with maintaining a forum on my system anymore; getting hacked every few days and having to ban entire DNS domains just screws everyone. This should prevent bots/etc. from logging on and we can get back to normal business. Also, I'm working on it so if something doesn't look quite right, give me some time. For some of you, I've pre-registered you so your username and passwords are the same. Give it a shot - if it doesn't work, then you'll have to register and wait for me to validate you. |
